the authentic canadian experience

apparently canadian citizens are required by law to go to a cabane a sucre at least once in their lives (for joy and whimsy), so you know i had to fulfill that obligation. i've heard so many stories (mostly horror stories, i can't even lie), so i was a little apprehensive going into it, but we made it out alive!!

started the week off with the second most canadian experience (poutine bar in the dining hall LETS GO), and while i regrettably didn't get a picture of it, just know that it surprisingly slapped. anyway. moving on.

on a similar note, this is the only regular update my dad can count on from me - a very enthusiastic review of what the dining hall has every time i go eat dinner (yes, he mocked me for saying it slapped. yes, i'm gonna say it again anyway).

and yes, the "2-2" at the beginning of the text was updates on a hockey game. because of course it was.

last food-related update (before the cabane a sucre recap) i PROMISEEEEE but here's me with this stack of four cookies i stole from the dining hall. had to pause my walk home to take a picture because i was truly amazed at my haul and probably still riding the thrill of the steal or whatever. and it was so worth it, they were so good and i ate them at midnight while playing minecraft with my girlfriend. 10/10.

speaking of my girlfriend - the other day, we discovered that cats sleep on your lap in minecraft and mo requested that i take a picture.

"wait, take one without my armor on, it'll look cuter" 🫡

ANYWAYYYYY, now onto the main event. the cabane a sucre was a 40 minute drive away and we went there at lunch, which required me to wake up before 10 am (and of course the entire family had a good laugh about that). this is the text invitation that i received from my aunt:

very funny, tia fufu. jokes on her, though - i woke up at 8:45 on the dot and was at the train station by 9:40. i'm basically a pro at this by now.

me, looking like a bitch (in my defense, the day before this i got up WELLL past noon). but try a smile, jules.

that's... a little bit better. progress.

the menu at the sucrerie - they had at least four of those giant maple leaf shaped maple syrup bottles on the table. the true canadian experience.

our first course - split pea soup! the rest of the meal was buffet style, but for some reason, they reallyyyy wanted us to have this, so it was brought to the table for everyone. probably for the best though, because it did in fact slap.

now, full disclosure. i tried to get a picture of the rest of my food. i thought i took a picture of my meat pie and crispy pork and pancakes with maple syrup and a side of fruit salad, but alas. my phone did not save it. so y'all will just have to imagine.

my review of the sugar shack - i think it has way too many haters. now, to be fair, i didn't eat too much because the drive there was forty minutes and bumpy down a dirt road and i didn't want to throw up my meat pie in the back of my grandparents' car, but what i did eat was actually a very solid meal (especially if you're a fur trader in 1600s).

the outside of the sucrerie (it was a literal wood cabin. very little house on the prairie vibes).

finished the day off with some rugby. the banshees won the game! which i think is deserved because their logo is the coolest. i mean, c'mon.

anyways! all in all, a pretty solid day. i may be stresed out of my mind about school, but i'll be done in just a few weeks! may 3rd is the date of my last final, which is kinda crazy to think about. veryyyyy excited for summer, though. of course.
