it's february (or it would've been if i was posting this at the time that it actually happened) and that means the beginning of apartment hunting, which i surprisingly really enjoy. from what i'd heard from friends, it sounded frustrating and difficult, but i'm an explorer at heart and what is apartment hunting if not exploring other people's homes and imagining yourself living there?? paradise for a daydreamer.
met avia downtown for some pizza and some time to catch up before my first apartment tour the next day. the plan was to find a four-bedroom apartment for me, avia, and two of her friends from mcgill (amelia and bryson). the ideal location was the plateau, which makes complete sense, because it's home to all the cool artsy gay people and that's exactly the vibe we're looking for. plus, tons of cute cafes and pedestrian roads and also a lot of the cultural centers of the city, which just makes it better.
avia, also taking a picture of her pizza.
i love taking pictures of all the little park skating rinks i walk past, because it really is the most canadian thing ever. you do NOT see this in mansfield, connecticut.
the first look at the potential neighborhood in the plateau! the houses almost don't look real, but i love them. i'm a big fan of the townhouse style in general - not the soulless ones where every townhouse is an exact copy of the other ones in the row, but the cutesy ones where every one is a little bit different and they have steps leading up to the main floor and a basement apartment down below.
everybody LOVEDDDD the apartment we toured that day, but unfortunately it was just not meant to be :( look at this bedroom though!! the arch in the middle of it was the best part, and i immediately declared it as mine. avia got the one with the big window, amelia got the one with the most closet space, and bryson was left with the last one (which was actually quite nice - none of the rooms were bad, which is surprisingly rare in these situations).
the little blue door was SO cute!!
quesadillas at the most american restaurant i have come across in this country so far - they played country music the whole time and served mostly burgers and fries. it was a strange little shift of culture, but it was definitely funny and the quesadillas did, in fact, slap.
the remnants of the blizzard, through the courtyard door at the dorms. i keep saying that if we're gonna get snow, i want it to be so much snow that i am unable to leave the building without digging my way out, so this was a good start.
and there's me! still not dressed weather-appropriately, but at least i'm self-aware (and no frostbite yet!).
anyways! we didn't end up getting that apartment, but it was fun to tour it anyway, and i'm just glad i'm getting out of the dorm more to be honest. i tend to stay in forever if i don't make plans (introvert to the extreme, except not really - the big 5 personality test i was forced to take for one of my psyc classes said that i'm actually pretty close to the middle of the introvert-extrovert scale. fun fact).
