playlist of the week
i go through phases with music - i can never like things a normal amount, so as soon as i find a song i like, i basically play it on repeat until i get bored of it. with that in mind, here are my current repeat songs:
★ fool's gold, by lucy dacus: i've loved lucy dacus for years now (boygenius's number one fan✊) but i discovered this song a few weeks ago and since then, it's taken over my life. i play it in the evenings, or while i'm on the bus (gotta have my indie coming-of-age film protagonist moment as i look out the window).
favorite lyric: you'll blame the altitude/she'll blame society/and I blame the part of you/that can't let up on the reins/you've got life in a chokehold
★ francesca, by hozier: i knew of hozier for literally forever (who doesn't), but this year i actually started listening to him and as it turns out, i love him. which is not a surprise, but it makes me regret taking so long to start listening to his music, because where has this been all my life???? anyway, this song specifically SLAPSSSS i love it.
favorite lyric: though I know my heart would break/i'll tell them put me back in it
★ claws in your back, by julien baker: a classic. a staple. i can only play this song when i'm either already sad or in the mood to be sad, but i LOVE it. shoutout julien baker, i would take a bullet for you.
favorite lyric: living with demons i've mistaken for saints/if you keep it between us, i think they're the same
★ i'll be waiting, by adele: i listened to so much adele as a child with no access to the internet (shoutout my dad's record collection), and recently when i go home i've been putting her music on in the car and then annoying everyone else present by singing along to every single song. especially this one though. it slaps.
favorite lyric: but we had time against us/and miles between us/the heavens cried/i know I left you speechless
★ NISSAN ALTIMA, by doechii: this one was a bit of a surprise. i don't usually listen to rap, but it's fun to play whenever i'm walking around - headphones on, chin up, hair probably blowing in the wind... it makes me feel cooler than i am, which i love. plus, doechii's an icon and i love her.
favorite lyric: i got haters, i got fans/i got stans in the stands/do they love her or do they hate her?/either way they spendin' bands
★ the view between villages (extended version), by noah kahan: as a new england girly that moved away for university... yeah, this song hits.
favorite lyric: the things that I lost here, the people I knew/they got me surrounded for a mile or two/left at the graveyard, I'm driving past ghosts/their arms are extended, my eyes start to close
★ isobel, by dido: thirteen year old closeted me was obsessed with this song, and current me definitely still thinks it has sapphic undertones. apparently i'm alone in that but i do NOT care i will fight everyone else. this song is gay coded as hell. what do you mean "it's been such hell, i wish you well... i'm helping it pass by loving you more" like c'mon now.
favorite lyric: dear isobel/i hope you're well, and what you've done is right/oh it's been such hell, i wish you well/i hope you're safe tonight/it's been a long day coming and long will it last/when it's last day leaving, and i'm helping it pass/by loving you more
★ fake plastic trees, by radiohead: my dad LOVESSS radiohead. for years, i tolerated it, and then one day i had some sort of epiphany and wanted to play it literally all the time. phoebe bridgers did a cover of this song, and that might have been part of what prompted me to become obsessed with it.
favorite lyric: she looks like the real thing/she tastes like the real thing/my fake plastic love/but I can't help the feeling/i could blow through the ceiling/if I just turn and run
★ fast car, by tracy chapman: listened to this song once at the beginning of the school year and it's been a constant in my life ever since. shoutout tracy, i love you.
favorite lyric: see, my old man's got a problem/he lives with the bottle, that's the way it is/he says his body's too old for working/his body's too young to look like his/my mama went off and left him/she wanted more from life than he could give/i said somebody's got to take care of him/so i quit school and that's what i did
★ paul, by big thief: specifically the julien baker cover. i love that woman, and i love this song.
favorite lyric: i'll be your morning bright good night shadow machine/i'll be your record player, baby, if you know what I mean
anyways (apparently that's my sign off now)! i have no new pictures or events, because my life is boring as hell, but posting things that no one (except my girlfriend - hi mo!) is gonna see is so fun, so here i am.
I’ll be adding these to my playlists, thank you very much!
