the authentic canadian experience

Image
apparently canadian citizens are required by law to go to a cabane a sucre at least once in their lives (for joy and whimsy), so you know i had to fulfill that obligation. i've heard so many stories (mostly horror stories, i can't even lie), so i was a little apprehensive going into it, but we made it out alive!! started the week off with the second most canadian experience (poutine bar in the dining hall LETS GO), and while i regrettably didn't get a picture of it, just know that it surprisingly slapped. anyway. moving on.  on a similar note, this is the only regular update my dad can count on from me - a very enthusiastic review of what the dining hall has every time i go eat dinner (yes, he mocked me for saying it slapped. yes, i'm gonna say it again anyway). and yes, the "2-2" at the beginning of the text was updates on a hockey game. because of course it was.  last food-related update (before the cabane a sucre recap) i PROMISEEEEE but here's me with...

playlist of the week

i go through phases with music - i can never like things a normal amount, so as soon as i find a song i like, i basically play it on repeat until i get bored of it. with that in mind, here are my current repeat songs: ★ fool's gold, by lucy dacus: i've loved lucy dacus for years now (boygenius's number one fan✊) but i discovered this song a few weeks ago and since then, it's taken over my life. i play it in the evenings, or while i'm on the bus (gotta have my indie coming-of-age film protagonist moment as i look out the window).     favorite lyric: y ou'll blame the altitude/she'll blame society/and I blame the part of you/that can't let up on the reins/you've got life in a chokehold ★ francesca, by hozier: i knew of hozier for literally forever (who doesn't), but this year i actually started listening to him and as it turns out, i love him. which is not a surprise, but it makes me regret taking so long to start listening to his music, because w...

romanticizing spring weather + girlfriend visit!!

Image
yes i know it's not spring yet. no i do not care. it was above freezing the other day, and i genuinely felt like a bear coming out of hibernation. i went downtown with aiyana to a thrift market, we got boba together, and then i dropped her off at her class and headed home - except i actually got off the bus like 15 stops before i was supposed to and took a two hour walk home, stopping at pretty much every single store. it was insane and made my feet hurt but i had a surprisingly good time!! the first store i stopped at - records, books, comics, cds, cassette tapes, and just a generally great vibe. i ended up not getting anything (it took incredible self-restraint), but i looked around for probably close to half an hour and had to talk myself out of an abba record. the obligatory aesthetic converse picture one of the other stores - a flower shop! i ended up stopping in at least two of these, but this one was the nicest. it almost looked like a greenhouse from the inside, despite lo...

pwhl bell center takeover!!

Image
so. we all know my time management skills are less than ideal, but this time that wasn't even what happened, i SWEARRRR. basically, i got tickets for the montreal victoire vs the boston fleet - specifically, the game that was going to be in the bell center, which is one of the biggest hockey rinks in the world. it has a capacity of 21,000 (ish), and i'd never watched a game there before! i got the tickets way in advance, planned everything out, invited a friend (shoutout sophia!), perfect. then, during reading week, my dad and i are checking the schedule for the pwhl to see when the next game is, as one does. he points out the montreal vs boston game on march 1st.  i say, "oh yeah, i'm going to that one!"  he says, "on march first?" i check the calendar. it is wednesday, february 26th. march 1st is saturday. i had not necessarily planned on going back to montreal before then.  i say "...yeah," (sheepishly, of course). my dad sighs. we will have...

reading week: winter semester edition

Image
most of my midterms are over, so that means it's time for a quick trip back to connecticut! i almost left my passport and citizenship certificate behind (whoops) but don't worry, we got them in the end. and it was good to be home! of course, the first thing i did was go to a uconn whoc game. we actually left montreal early (i woke up at 6 am - you all should be so proud) just to get there in time, in true superfan fashion. uconn won, obviously. but it was actually a huge win, because they needed to win both games that weekend to keep themselves in the race for regular season champions. their opponent, boston university, was the other contender for top spot, and they were five points ahead going into the game. that meant that to win, they wouldn't even have to win either of the games against uconn - all they would need would be to take the game to overtime, and that would get them one point and seal the season victory for them. for uconn to win, they needed to win both games...

apartment hunting

Image
it's february (or it would've been if i was posting this at the time that it actually happened) and that means the beginning of apartment hunting, which i surprisingly really enjoy. from what i'd heard from friends, it sounded frustrating and difficult, but i'm an explorer at heart and what is apartment hunting if not exploring other people's homes and imagining yourself living there?? paradise for a daydreamer. met avia downtown for some pizza and some time to catch up before my first apartment tour the next day. the plan was to find a four-bedroom apartment for me, avia, and two of her friends from mcgill (amelia and bryson). the ideal location was the plateau, which makes complete sense, because it's home to all the cool artsy gay people and that's exactly the vibe we're looking for. plus, tons of cute cafes and pedestrian roads and also a lot of the cultural centers of the city, which just makes it better. avia, also taking a picture of her pizza. i ...

the great blizzard of 2025

Image
okay. so i know i'm starting this blog in march (the fourteenth, to be exact - my mom's birthday) but a lot has happened in the past month ish and i need to play up every single cool event in my life to make me seem more interesting, so... this would've been posted on february 12th if i had a blog then, but it's happening now instead. now that we got that out of the way, there was a blizzard in montreal - something that i haven't experienced since i was a kid (probably because i've never lived in montreal before). we're talking a LOT of snow. we're talking "impossible to walk through" amounts of snow. i wanted to go to the grocery store (a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do) and ended up having to walk on the road rather than the sidewalk because it was the only place that had been shoveled adequately. it was okay, though, because no one was driving in that weather, anyway.  a picture taken right next to the psychology building on c...

a blog is born

when i was younger, my parents had a blog. it ran from about ten months before i was born to shortly after my seventh birthday (2006 to 2013), and now that i'm grown up (kinda), i find myself looking back at it at least once every few weeks. it's full of baby pictures of me and my sisters, but before that, it includes pictures of just my parents and their travels and adventures. they started their blog in their thirties, but i've got a ways to go before i get there, and i'm having my own adventures going to university and living alone in montreal, so why not post about it? not that anyone's necessarily going to see this, but at the very least, it'll be nostalgic for me to look back on at some point. anyways. if you're here, enjoy!!
